William C. Meyer was born on June 17, 1844 on the family honestead in Brush Valley near Wolf Store.  He was the eldest child of Reuben Meyer and his wife Mary (Corman).  He had two sisters, Joanna and Sara; and four brothers, Jerome, Henry Amazon, Calvin, and Daniel.

 

William enlisted in Company A 148th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers at Rebersburg, Pennsylvania on August 25, 1862.  His cousin, Henry Meyer, enlisted at the same time.
